Learning how long people viewed a video on a Facebook page.

Shows the location of the Facebook page video viewing duration statistic

Introduction

It's important to know a video view does not mean the entire video was viewed. It doesn't mean the majority of the video was viewed. Each social media platform determines what it counts as a video view. Facebook counts three seconds of a video playing on the screen as a video view. Audio doesn't have to be on for those three seconds to count as a video view.

If you want a more helpful metric in determining how engaged viewers were, Facebook provides a video's average minutes viewed. This lesson will show how to find that metric for a video post and the location of other video metrics.

Summary

It's easy to tout a large number of video views as a success. But if you learn most those views were less than a few seconds, would you still consider the video post effective for your organization's goals?

The average minutes viewed may provide a better gauge on a video's performance on Facebook. Fortunately, that is one of the video metrics provided and is easily accessed from a post, when viewing Facebook on a desktop computer or laptop. Page managers can click on the metrics below a post to open a window with more metrics, including average minutes viewed.
